Launching the SFU Queer Collective

Updated: May 8

Dear Community,

After a hiatus that spanned several years, we are delighted to share that the SFU Queer Graduate Student, Faculty and Staff Network has undergone a transformative revival. To reflect this transformation we have changed our name to the SFU Queer Collective. This rebranding signifies our aspirations for a more collaborative and community-centered approach that embodies collective principles and spirit.

The SFU Queer Collective is more committed than ever to creating an equitable space for 2SLGBTQIA+ graduate students, faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, and alumni on our three campuses.

In addition to unveiling our new name, we are pleased to present our updated mission statement and to introduce you to your new organizing committee.

SFU Queer Collective Missions Statement:

“The SFU Queer Collective provides an inclusive home for 2SLGBTQIA+ graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni, and postdoctoral fellows at SFU to cultivate belonging, community, and queer joy. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to anti-oppressive values, the promotion of equity and justice, and the nurturing of intersectional solidarities. The SFU Queer Collective represents a vibrant and skilled network dedicated to resource-sharing, collaboration, advocacy, empowerment, and the protection and celebration of our members and the larger Queer community.”
